MORRISON HUON PINE
The Morrison's Huon Pine Sawmill is a non-commercial mill operating from The Esplanade, Strahan. The mill is open daily with FREE ENTRY. The mill is family owned and operated, with the fourth generation of the Morrison family now working at the mill. The mill has been operating from the waterfront for 65+ years. The original Morrison's Mill was located at the mouth of the King River. Every day at approx. 3pm ("when the red cruise boat comes in") a FREE daily talk and demonstration of the vertical frame saw, which is estimated to be over a hundred years old, attracts many people.
Everyone is welcome. Snowy, Erin and Brendon are more than happy to chat and answer any questions. A variety of natural Tasmanian timbers are available. Bread/cutting boards, coasters, cheeseboards, hot pot rings (trivets), doorstops, wine bottle holders, coat racks,clocks, barometers and other hand made crafts are available for purchase at the mill. Also available for the home craftsman/woodturner are turning blanks, timber packs and a variety of bark-edged slabs. $1.00 off-cut bin.
A local wood turner has a stall inside the mill, selling his own handmade crafts. "FREE ENTRY"
